Keep cool – even at 180 °C

Perfect for summer, Leoni Special Cables GmbH (LSC) presents a particularly heat-resistant PROFIBUS cable from the FieldLink® product range.

Even in extreme temperatures up to 180 °C it won’t break into a sweat. This extraordinary heat resistance is made possible through an external sheath of fluorinated ethylene propylene, or FEP (better known as Teflon® FEP from DuPont), which also features universal chemical resistance and is exceptionally flame retardant (by low smoke development). What’s more, the new PROFIBUS solution is oil- and UV-resistant, and therefore demonstrates great staying power even under harsh industrial conditions.

The challenge when developing temperature-resistant bus and data cables is to maintain the specified electrical properties and dimensions (here EN 50170) despite the different dielectric properties of the core insulation. In addition to foamed PE (epsilonr approx. 2.3), LSC can also process foamed FEP (epsilonr approx. 2.1) insulation for standard applications. The foaming process enables the dielectric constant epsilonr, which indicates the permittivity of materials in electrical fields, to be individually adjusted with specified dimensions to the requirements of different bus systems.

The latest high-temperature cable from the FieldLink® range was specially designed for use in blast-furnace systems and steel mills. Thus, field devices and cable lines can also be placed in high-temperature areas where standard cabling would give up and “melt away.”
